  • Jacksonville police are searching for a man who robbed a Wells Fargo with 14 people inside. JSO was called to the scene on Blanding, near Harlow, at 10:25 AM. We’re told the suspect walked in to the bank, waited in line, and then approached the counter. “He told the teller to look at him. When the teller looked at him, he lifted his shirt, and brandished a black, semi-automatic handgun from his waistband,” says JSO Lt. Jennifer Short. The suspect got an undisclosed amount of cash from the teller and then fled in to a dark colored vehicle in the parking lot, according to JSO. The suspect is described as a white or hispanic man, 5’9”, 180 lbs., with a dark beard. He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, dark pants, and black ball cap. JSO is expected to release surveillance from the bank at some point, and we will update as that is available. While JSO says there were about 14 people in the bank, including customers, it doesn’t appear the customers knew there was a robbery taking place. Nobody was hurt. This location was hit with a robbery last year as well. JSO says this robbery is not believed to be connected to any other active investigations.
  • 2 people were taken to the hospital with serious injuries after a head on collision early this morning. The Florida Highway Patrol says that the crash happened on US-17 just north of Hamilton Street in Nassau County at 6:30 AM. According to the crash report a woman was traveling south on US-17, when her truck veered into the northbound lanes  and hit  a car head on. The man driving the car and the woman driving the truck were both taken to UF health in serious condition. Police tell us the injured are both from Fernandina Beach.     There was a third vehicle involved, but the driver of that SUV was not injured.

  • Just a few days after St. Johns County deputies say a sex offender cut off his tracking device and absconded, he’s now been tracked down. The Sheriff’s Office says Robert Ferrell was arrested without incident Sunday. The arrest report shows he was caught off Rues Landing Road in St. Augustine. Ferrell cut off his GPS monitoring device and threw it in the trash on Tuesday, according to deputies. The arrest report further shows that, shortly before Ferrell allegedly cut off his monitor, he had gone to Flagler Hospital for an unspecified illness which investigators believed he would be admitted for. He was instead discharged from the ER without being admitted, and the same day, the GPS device stopped transmitting. The Sheriff’s Office is thanking the community for their help tracking Ferrell down. A Facebook post from SJSO says they received tips from the community- who also widely shared his photo- as part of their investigation.
  • The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is actively searching for the suspect in a shooting that’s left one man dead and another injured. Police currently describe the suspect as a black man in between his 30’s and 40’s, wearing a black shirt, and blue jeans. Police say, after the shooting, the suspect ran away from the gas station near the corner of Blanding Blvd. and Duclay Rd. “He fled on foot, westbound, on Duclay” according to Sgt. Steve Rudlaff of the Jacksonville Sherriff”s Office.  Police are actively searching for any surveillance video and any clues that could lead them to identifying the suspect.  “We are patrolling the area, we’re canvasing it, trying to find out exactly who the suspect is.” says Sgt Rudlaff. According to the incident report the suspect is facing possible aggravated battery charges once he is arrested.   The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says that an argument lead up to the shooting. Police tell us the shooting happened around 8 o’clock Sunday night at the Mobil Gas Station near that corner of Blanding Blvd. and Duclay Rd. Police say when they got to the gas station they found 2 men shot, both were taken to Orange Park Medical Center, where one of the men died. Police say that the argument happened inside the gas station and say that the shooter walked outside, and waited for the 2 men to come out when he open fire. “The actual victims were shot inside, however, we do believe from the witness accounts that the shooter was standing outside.” Says Sgt. Rudlaff.  The 2 men who were shot have not been identified, and JSO describes them as 1 black man and 1 white man in the 20-30 year old age range.    Anyone with information on the shooter is asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers.  This is a developing story.  We have reached out to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office for more information on the suspect and to see if there are any photos of the shooter.
