Alan Gendreau was the kicker at Middle Tennessee State but he has higher ambitions.
Gendreau wants to make his living in the NFL but knows he has an uphill battle in more than one way.
After graduating last year Gendreau admits he didn’t train enough to be drafted and he regrets that.
He told Outsports “right now, looking back when I’m 40, I can’t say I gave it my best shot. If I don’t give it everything I have now, I’ll regret it for the rest of my life.”
Gendreau says he is a devout Christian and points out that after coming out as a freshman his teammates were all supportive.
Gendreau had a solid career with the Blue Raiders scoring 295 points, the most by any player in the Sun Belt Conference in ten seasons.
Because he wasn’t drafted last year Gendreau is considered a free agent and he’ll need to impress in tryout camps in the next few weeks.
In the past couple of weeks there has been talk of multiple NFL players announcing they are gay but none has as of yet.
