Sarah Silverman is best known for her comedy act and offbeat humor.
But the obit she wrote for her 19 year old Chihuahua-pug mix has touched the heartstrings of millions of people who have made it one of the most searched topics on the internet.
Silverman adopted Duck "Doug" Silverman from a shelter when he was five years old. She writes he was "a happy dog, though serene. And stoic. And he loved love."
Silverman said she knew it was time to end the suffering when the blind, arthritic pooch stopped eating completely.
Silverman was by the dog’s side when the euthanasia drugs were given. "I told him how loved he was, and thanked him for giving me such happiness and for his unwavering companionship and love," she wrote.
While the entire obit is heartfelt and touching Silverman got the most response with her final lines.
"14 years. My longest relationship. My only experience of maternal love. My constant companion. My best friend. Duck."
