As it turns out, although Anthony Boone did indeed break his collarbone in the Memphis game, he won’t need surgery. Coach Cutcliffe says his return is up in the air: “Part of it is now well he heals. Part of it is how compliant Anthony is. You can’t have movement. It’s difficult to have right arm locked up all the time. It’s hard to study. It’s hard to sleep. So you don’t really know.”
And part of it, too, is just how significantly the bone is broken. If it’s a hairline fracture, it might heal fairly quickly. Duke has not disclosed how major the break is, but the absence of surgery is encouraging.
Of course, with no movement and no reps, Boone may heal and still not be able to return quickly. Here’s hoping things work out well for him and the team.
