Georgia basketball lost one and added one this week. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope left for the NBA and today, Mississippi SF Kenny Paul Geno pledged his future to being a Georgia basketball player.
Now, aside from going by 3 names and beginning it all with a K, we shouldn't expect Geno to be a replacement for KCP.
Not many people know much about him, as he wasn't rated by the recruiting sites. (Cue the complaints about Mark Fox's recruiting.) But the clips you can find on youtube show a decent athlete. Georgia began to show interest in Geno late this spring, as did a handful of other teams including Mississippi St. After taking numerous charges last year, it's a wonder Duke wasn't looking to sneak him in.
Mark Fox has said he only wants players learning one spot as freshman (cue more complaints), and Geno mentions in the article he'll be playing SF next year. That puts him backing up Brandon Morris, and his clips show a somewhat similar skill set.
Combine this with the news that Marcus Thornton has received a medical redshirt and will have two years remaining, expect Mark Fox to hold that last open scholarship in his pocket for 2014. That leaves Georgia with a lineup we can expect to look something like below next year:
Starting-Charles Man (So), Kenny Gaines (So), Brandon Morris (So), Nemi Djurisic (Jr), Donte Williams (Sr)
Bench-JJ Frazier (Fr), Juwan Parker (Fr), Kenny Paul Geno (Fr), Houston Kessler (rsFr), Marcus Thornton (Jr), Tim Dixon (Jr), John Cannon (Jr)
