News and commentary from around the Big Blue Internet. North Carolina beat Louisville. Kentucky hoops wins a tough one on the road at Middle Tennessee St. Calipari laments effort of the Wildcats. More.
Louisville had a 21-game winning streak snapped yesterday by the North Carolina Tar Heels. Ah, schadenfreude is a mixed blessing in this case. Here's a tiny bit of worry from our friends at Card Chronicle:
I think the worst part about this loss is the fact that U of L doesn't have the schedule this year to make it obsolete - from a resume stand point, at least. If Louisville loses at Kentucky on Dec. 28, then the Cards are going to enter play in an average AAC without a single quality non-conference win. Not ideal.
By all means, panic, Cardinals.
Tweet of the Morning:
Rick Pitino has never beaten North Carolina in his career. After Sunday's loss, Pitino's teams are now 0-5 against the Tar Heels. -ESPN— TEAM GFORCE (@TEAMGFORCE1) November 25, 2013
Okay, technically, that was last night. Still worth it.
Tom Leach's thoughts on the Georgia game. He throws in a little Julius Randle talk, also. I like his praise for Dyshawn Mobley, I just couldn't bring myself to write anything positive on Saturday due to psychic malaise.
Neal Brown didn't think the Wildcats "had the same fight" as they have the rest of the year. I will reserve comment except to observe that I couldn't think of a single positive thing to say on Saturday night.
Dominique Hawkins is setting the tone for Kentucky's guards. More like the standard, if you ask me.
This has got to change. Effort is not something we want to be teaching right now.
Coach Cal likes the new referee emphasis, Gary Waters of Cleveland State, not so much. For the record, I agree with Calipari, but I'm biased — back when I used to play, the new rules were much like the rules we played under back then. I think allowing a great deal of contact undermined the game. Apparently, a lot of people agree, but not everyone.
Missouri takes the broom to the Kentucky volleyball team. Ugh.
Kentucky women's basketball gets a tough win on the road against MTSU.
Pyrrhic victory #125 for Mark Richt. I am distraught to hear about Aaron Murray's torn ACL. It is just incredibly sad, and the worst part is, there was no extraordinary twists or hits or anything. It just seemed to fail all by itself.
From a 3-win season to a BCS contender. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Auburn Tigers.
SEC lands 3 in the top 5 of the BCS standings. In other news, the sun rose today, and set last evening. But seriously, who would have expected 2 of the 3 to be Missouri and Auburn?
Duke escapes East Carolina by 1 point. The Blue Devils are not a very good team right now. They remind me a lot of North Carolina teams of the recent past — soft, and missing the flops called as charges.
Did anybody but me think maybe VCU was overrated at #10? Well, I know Ken Pomeroy has them ranked #30. Just sayin'.
