The Gamecocks got the second quarter off to a good start by finishing off the drive they had going at the end of the first. Mike Davis ran the ball in for Carolina's third TD. Kentucky responded with a long scoring drive of its own, getting on the board to make the score 21-7. Dylan Thompson came into the game on the ensuing possession, but Carolina failed to get a drive going, as Thompson was the victim of weak pass protection and good downfield coverage by the 'Cats. The Gamecocks defense held Kentucky on its ensuing possession, and the Carolina offense would move the ball downfield to put another three on the board on an Elliott Fry FG. The score at the half is 24-7.
