Gateway retail has filed a federal lawsuit to prevent moving the Duval County Supervisor of Elections office to a new location.
Gateway lawyers argue moving the Supervisor of Elections headquarters to 1 Imeson disenfranchises voters. But Duval County Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland says he's committed to having early voting in the Gateway community.
"We're not moving the early voting location to 1 Imeson."
Holland says the only thing moving there is the office equipment and it will be the new location for where they train poll workers. He believes the lawsuit is a delay tactic that's costly to taxpayers.
"Stretch this out as long as they can until the point where we can't even move because of the 2014 elections."
The Jacksonville City Council recently approved relocating from the Gateway location to 1 Imeson. While the lawsuit plays out in court, its costing taxpayers $51,000 a month in rent at Gateway. A judge is expected to render the final decision on October 3rd.
