Jacksonville, FL - A domestic dispute escalates, ending with one woman dead and the suspect charged with murder while recovering in the hospital.
Jacksonville Police were called to Sunderland Road in the Lakeshore area Friday where 33-year-old Kendra Nagy was dead from a gunshot and 45-year-old Michael Day was suffering an apparently self-inflicted gunshot to the head. Day was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover, however he has not yet spoken with police.
Investigators believe a fight between the “on again off again” couple started Thursday night. JSO says the couple was out drinking at Overtime Sports when Day became “belligerent”. The police report obtained by WOKV says Nagy had a friend sneak her out of the back of the bar and drive her home. She arrived at their home the same time as the suspect, however, and both Day and Nagy went inside.
The woman who drove Nagy home was concerned and stayed in touch with Nagy.
“That same friend started to receive concerning text messages which caused that friend to be alarmed for our victim’s safety,” says JSO Assistant Chief Chris Butler.
The police report says Day started texting that same woman, saying he had screwed up and there was “no turning back now”.
When Nagy didn’t show up for work the next day, a group of her coworkers went to check on her. Day answered the door and pointed the group to a back room, where Nagy was dead. The coworkers initially thought Day had been beaten, but police say he had actually been shot.
Inside the home and around the body, there were signs attempts had been made to clean up the scene. Police say there was nobody else in the home at the time and no signs of forced entry.
Day has now been charged with Nagy’s murder, although he remains in the hospital. The exact motive is not yet clear, although police believe it relates to the prior argument.
