FL on board with new GOP direction

Florida may already be moving down the path of the new GOP direction.

State Republican Party Chair Lenny Curry tells us his main take-away from the RNC winter meeting, wrapping up today, is that the GOP wants to be a party of the “little guy” and “opportunity”- something he thinks Florida is easily showing.

“We haven’t raised taxes, we’ve paid down our debt, we’re at a four year low in unemployment,” he says.

Curry says it’s not something that will happen overnight, but rather a long term goal for the party.

“You gotta create a vision, and you gotta be committed to it and stick to it,” he says.

For the party overall, however, it will be debt and spending that must be dealt with first because it is “the national crisis” of our time according to Curry.  As the party moves forward, he expects to see more clear communication and better vetting candidates and preparing them to speak about their issues the right way.

“Candidates that are pro-life should in fact be proud that they’re pro-life, but you don’t have to go out talking about how you define rape,” he says.

Curry says Florida’s main challenge right now is taking its success to the national stage.
