Bomb squad investigates package sent to Westside school

A suspicious package addressed to the Cedar Creek Christian School’s administrator turns out to be returned items.

"Upon opening the contents, they wre items being returned from an employee that was terminated about two to three weeks ago," said Assistant Chief Pat Ivey with JSO.

The administrator tells police the employee didn’t leave on bad terms.  Assistant Chief Pat Ivey with JSO says the call first came in around 9:40 a.m.  Just before 12:30 p.m. there was a loud bang from the scene, which Ivey says was the bomb squad performing a render safe procedure, which while he wouldn’t elaborate on it, did say a robot was involved.  Police say the only people they had to evacuate were the children from the school.

"We were very fortunate where this occurred.  On two sides you had woods and then not a lot of residential people," said Ivey.

Students were evacuated as a precaution and Lane Avenue between Lenox and Park were closed for several hours but have since reopened.
