A big change is coming to your drive, and the Florida Department of Transportation wants you to be a part of designing what happens.
One lane will be added in each direction of Blanding Boulevard from County Road 218 to Allie Murray Road. You’ll also see new bike lanes, fewer median cuts and some increased traffic signals under the current design.
The first phase of the project is currently slated to begin in Fall 2018, so the FDOT is making a big push now for any concerns, questions or input you have on the project design.
“Once we get the funding in place for a certain set of plans, it’s difficult to go back and change the plans,” says FDOT Public Information Specialist Laurie Sanderson.
She says using public input they’ve gotten up to this point, they’ve already started to augment the design. Lazy Acres will be shifted north at the intersection with Long Bay Road and the intersection of Blanding at CR220 will have two traffic signals because of the feedback.
There are still lots of questions to be ironed out as well- including how to do all this construction without too much interruption to traffic on the street. Sanderson says traditionally major construction is done during the evening and overnight hours, but she’s not certain that can be done here.
Funding for the $25 million is expected to be secured by the time construction begins.
Any input you have can be submitted to the Florida Department of Transportation.
