An 11-year-old boy is accidentally shot and killed in Lake City, the person responsible for watching him now facing criminal charges.
26-year-old Michael Norman is charged with aggravated manslaughter, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm with altered serial numbers.
Police say Norman was babysitting a group of children at the Cedar Park Apartments on May 11. Norman went to bed at 3 AM while the children were already asleep. Police say he left a Ruger 9 mm handgun out on the kitchen table.
Norman awoke the next morning to the sound of a gunshot. He found 11-year-old Jarvin Johnson lying unresponsive and a 4-year-old handling the gun in the living room. A 2-year-old was also standing nearby.
The bullet hit Jarvin in the neck. He was taken to UF & Shands Hospital in Gainesville where he died two days later. The 4-year-old suffered injuries to her face from the recoil after the gun discharged.
