JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Could the district medical examiner's office soon be privatized? A new report from another Florida medical examiner suggests it could be a money-saving solution for taxpayers, but only if the governor appoints a new ME...
There's no timetable on when we'll hear who the next medical examiner will be for our district or if Rick Scott will reappoint the current ME, Dr. Valerie Rao.
We told you months ago about employee complaints and unsanitary working conditions at the ME's office. The report obtained by our partner Action News, says the $2.5 million the ME's office gets could go a long way under the right leadership.
Dr. Rao has been accused of using her bare hands, washing her feet in autopsy sinks, and spending office funds frivolously on things like autopsy saws.
City spokesman David DeCamp says they're looking for the most efficient way to run the office.
