Clay County’s top cop kicks off new initiative with local high schools

Jacksonville, Fl. — The students at Orange Park High School were the first to take part in “Straight Talk” with Sheriff Darryl Daniels.

Sheriff Daniels and Superintendent of Clay County Schools Addison David spoke with 25 students where they had the opportunity to speak about issues and initiatives that are important to them.

"They asked about some of the things going that have been going on in the country, involving racial issues. They asked about what they can do in the community to make it a better place," says Sergeant Keith Smith, Public Information Officer with the Sheriff's Office.

When Sheriff Daniels was sworn in January of 2017, he already made clear part one of his top priorities would be connecting with the community.

"After the first year of doing the Sheriff's Walks which those will continue into 2018 and now we kicked off this initiative going into the schools, and his plan is to go into every high school and do this program."

Sheriff Daniels plans to meet with a group of students from a different high school each month.
