Several people, including an off-duty police officer, thwarted an attempted kidnapping Sunday night on the Westside.
A 14-year-old started screaming for help when a man tried to kidnap the teen along Rockpond Meadows Drive around 8 p.m.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said a 12-year-veteran of JSO and a few neighbors heard the teen’s screams for help and jumped into action.
The group took the man into custody a few blocks away in the parking lot of Crystal Springs Elementary School, according to JSO.
The officer received minor injuries, but the teenager was okay and was later returned to family.
JSO will determine what the man will be charged with after all the witness interviews are completed.
