A man and woman from Middleburg face charges of organized schemes to defraud after they allegedly sold sick dogs to unsuspecting victims. Candice Mullis and Justin Stone are both in police custody for the crime.
The Clay County Sheriff's Office says one of the victims says she met with a woman who called herself "Jessi Larsen" who sold her an American Bulldog complete with papers signed by a vet and a breeder for $250. Four days later the victim said she had to take the dog to an emergency clinic and eventually have it euthanized due to health issues.
Animal control told the victim she had received false papers and the victim contacted police.
