DCF investigating after marijuana found at OP daycare

Police say marijuana was found on the floor in an infant room of Sunshine Academy Daycare in Orange Park.

A police report says the day care director found one-tenth of a gram in the infant room.

We reached out to Florida Department of Children and Families spokesman John Harrell who said, "We are very concerned and investigating carefully."

A parent said she's worried about the children there. "All infants -- they pick up everything and they always put it in their mouth, so anything on the floor in reach is going straight in their mouth," said Kristina White.

DCF said once the marijuana was found, a worker picked it up immediately and sent the employees to get drug-tested. DCF said one person was found to have marijuana in his or her system.

The day care issued a statement to our partner Action News that said, "There was a situation that occurred and immediate action was taken. It was investigated internally and was found that no staff members were involved. An additional investigation by DCF has also occurred. I was notified we took appropriate measures to make sure, and our staff members acted quickly and responsibly to the matter."
