DCF investigating home with hallucinating adults, two children

Two children are found in a mobile home with four adults under the influence of a hallucinogenic.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and Jacksonville Fire and Rescue responded to the Orange Park North Trailer Park on Collins Road this afternoon. The police report we obtained describes the adults as “seriously impaired”.  Police noted that one person “did not seem to know his surroundings”, one “did not know her birthday or what was going on” and two were in a back room “totally unaware of their surroundings”.

The adults were rushed to two separate hospitals. A neighbor told police they had taken an Angel Trumpet flower, cut it up, mixed it with water, and microwaved it. The adults allegedly drank the liquid, which made them hallucinate.

Police contacted the Florida Department of Children and Families about the two children.

We’ve confirmed DCF started investigating possible child neglect by the family several weeks ago, but have now stepped up that investigation.  DCF says they are working now to determine whether the children could have had access to the hallucinogenic, whether they lived in the trailer full time, and other living conditions.

Because of confidentiality restrictions, the age of the children and relationship to the adults in the home has not been released.

DCF says if you suspect abuse, you can call the Florida Abuse Hotline at 1-800-962-2873.
