Jacksonville, FL — The goal is protect and improve water quality in the St. Johns River and its tributaries.

The Florida Department of Health in Duval County has been awarded a total of $549,000 in grants from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

The money is going toward the 'Septic Tank Survey and Remediation Projects,' which will include the Department of Health carrying out door-to-door surveys looking to identify aging and malfunctioning septic systems to be repaired, replaced, or connected to a central sewer system.
