St. Johns County, Fl. - A deputy with the St. Johns Sheriff’s Office shot a man wielding a knife early Sunday morning.
John Vincent DeSanto is accused of stabbing a woman at a housing complex on Sunrise Boulevard.
Deputy Todd Boger found DeSanto, 43, and told him to drop the “fighting style” knife he was holding.
The St. Johns Sheriff’s Office said Boger shot DeSanto after the suspect refused to put down the knife and confronted Boger instead.
Paramedics with St. Johns County Fire and Rescue provided treatment for DeSanto, who was later flown to UF Health in Jacksonville for additional trauma care.
The victim of the initial stabbing was also treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The female victim said she knew DeSanto, who is accused of stabbing her after she opened the door for him.
Deputy Boger has been on the force for 10 years and was placed on administrative leave after the incident per standard protocol.
