DeSantis: IRS investigation shouldn't end without responsible party

On Tuesday’s edition of Jacksonville’s Morning News we told you about one Democratic Congressman from Maryland who says investigation in to the IRS should be wrapped up, but we’ve learned one of your area Congressmen says now is the time to turn up the heat.

“I’m just surprised that anyone would say that given that we haven’t has anyone take responsibility for this whole episode,” says Republican Congressman Ron DeSantis.

DeSantis tells WOKV he isn’t happy with any of the IRS leaders that have been called on to testify- from Lois Lerner, who pled the Fifth after a brief opening statement, to Doug Shulman, who led the IRS when the political targeting happened.

“He was a really, really terrible witness- refused to answer questions, didn’t take responsibility for anything that happened,” DeSantis says.

While he says lawmakers have made some headway behind the scenes, speaking with IRS workers who are being more responsive, he says the investigation can’t truly wrap up until someone in a leadership position steps up.

“I don’t care if it’s good or bad for the administration, the American people deserve the truth for how the government operates,” he says.

DeSantis says anyone calling to end the investigation now is doing so because of a political motive.
