Driveway cave-in on Jacksonville's westside

A water main break may have caused concrete in the driveway of a westside property to cave-in.  This morning, crews will be working to investigate the cause of the cave-in further.

There is a 6 by 6 foot gaping hole in the driveway off Falcon Street.  It's about 4 feet deep at its deepest point.

Noah Hammett, a deacon at Greater Moncrief Baptist Church, said he was dropping off some members at the home following a vacation bible study class when the cave-in occurred.

The front end of his van went in the hole.

"I was backing out the driveway and the driveway collapsed and the first thing I know I'm in the hole- 8 foot hole," said Hammett.  "If you ever heard a hand grenade go off that's pretty much what it was like. It was real loud. People started coming out of their houses asking me what was going on."

No one was injured and the van wasn't significantly damaged.
