Jacksonville, FL - The man sought for shooting another man during a weekend fight on the Westside has now been arrested.
48-year-old Victor Howell is charged with aggravated battery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Witnesses tell police Howell and a man got in a verbal argument over a drug sale on Catoma Street very early Sunday morning. The arrest report obtained by WOKV says witnesses saw Howell go to a storage shed on the property and come back with an assault rifle, shooting the victim in the chest.
The victim sustained a life-threatening injury.
Police searched for the suspect described by the witnesses through the day before locating Howell around 3:30PM. He agreed to talk to detectives, and admitted to being at the scene of the argument but denied shooting the victim. Howell told police the threatened him, so he went to the shed to get his cell phone and a beer. He says the victim then showed a handgun, and when they got in a physical fight, the gun discharged.
Howell is a convicted felon, found guilty three times of dealing in stolen property.
