Dump truck driver tries but fails to rescue driver in crash

An early morning crash on Philips Hwy left one person dead, despite the best efforts of a dump truck driver who had just been rear-ended.

Florida Highway Patrol responded to the crash around 3am on Philips Hwy near Race Track Road.  The crash left both directions of Philips closed for hours.

FHP says the driver of a Dodge Magnum rear-ended a dump truck.  After impact the Magnum ignited,  trapping the driver.
FHP identifies the driver as 29-year-old Lisa Marie Amalfitano of Jacksonville.  According to the crash report, she was not wearing a seat belt, and results of an alcohol test are pending.
The driver of the dump truck tried to rescue the woman but was unable to.

FHP says speed may have been a factor in the crash.
Northbound lanes of Philips Hwy. re-opened before 7am.   Southbound lanes were re-opened around 8am.
