Open enrollment for parents of students who attend school in Duval County is closer to becoming a reality.
Duval County schools Superintendent Dr. Nikolai Vitti tells WOKV he still believes open enrollment for Duval County Schools is a good option for parents despite criticism on its potential impact on underperforming schools.
"Certainly the fear is that we'd have an increased low enrolled schools. In no way is this about abandoning our lower enrolled schools or lower performing schools."
But he says he believes some options are better than none for parents.
"I would rather see a parent who's not satisfied about what's happening at a particular school go to another traditional public school."
The school board will vote on April 1st on open enrollment. If it's approved he says they will start open enrollment sometime in Mid-April into May.
