Jacksonville, FL — If you're planning a beach day anytime soon, expect to see heavy equipment, pipes, and more.
The Duval County Shore Protection Project to rebuild sand dunes and restore the eroded beach from Hurricane Matthew is getting restarted, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
While the contractor has already started mobilizing heavy equipment and pipes, the project manager, Jason Harrah, says the project will officially restart on April 8th, with the following tentative timeline:
From April 8 to April 22- 17th Street to 1st Street in Atlantic Beach
From April 22 to May 30- 9th Avenue North to 19th Avenue South in Jax Beach
While the project is underway, the contractor expects to temporarily close at least 1,200 feet of the beach at a time.
Throughout the duration of the project, we’re told the public parking area on 16th Avenue South will remain closed, as it’s being used to store construction equipment.
The beach renourishment is funded in partnership with the City of Jacksonville, Florida Department of Environmental Procreation, and Duval County. It breaks down to about 38.4% local funds and 61.6% federal funds.
