FEMA grant means 67 new firefighters in Jax

The city of Jacksonville received a 5.9M grant from FEMA to hire new firefighters.

Mayor Alvin Brown tells WOKV the city needs talented, bright firefighters. He says he's glad to bring them on board.

"This is going to help up. We're going to be able to bring on the best and the brightest new firefighters on the front line."

Brown says 67 new firefighters will start working in the spring. He mentioned it took dozens of firefighters to put out the fire that started at the Olive Garden on Atlantic Boulevard. He believes ultimately it will translate into a safer community.
