One person is dead after a train crashed into a truck on Thursday night in Green Cove Springs.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the accident involved an Amtrak train and a truck.
The truck had two people inside when it was hit by the train, and 38-year-old Caleb Osborne was pronounced dead at the scene.
Osborne was in the passenger seat of the truck that drove onto the tracks.
The driver of the truck, Richard Tilman, 41, was seriously injured.
The train was heading from Orlando to New York with passengers on board when the truck drove into the path of the oncoming train, but one of those passengers were hurt according to FHP.
FHP said the train was stuck for about an hour as investigators collected evidence.
Officials say the crossing rails were working.
“As far as I know, they were, they have been, working the entire time we have been out here and the train did just go through a few minutes ago, and they were working at that time,” said Lt. Tina Hall with FHP.
Neighbors in Green Cove Springs were devastated to learn about the crash and said there's rarely traffic or incidents on the raod.
“Sad, it’s very sad,” said Barbara Bullins. "It’s just kind of hard to believe that it actually happened there.”
