We've been in contact with the Florida Highway Patrol and have learned new information about a deadly crash on I-295 near Town Center/UNF exit.
We first told you about the crash shortly after it happened at 6:30am Monday. It blocked at least one lane and caused heavy delays throughout the morning rush hour.
Sgt. Dylan Bryan with FHP says 26 year-old Emmanuel Reyes-Conor of Jacksonville was speeding when he tried to pass from the right lane. That's when he lost control and went onto the shoulder, then hit a huge concrete pole, breaking the vehicle in two.
Part of the wreckage ended up in a nearby retention pond so the JSO Dive Team was called in.
"Just to confirm there was no additional occupants in the water", said Sgt. Bryan with Florida Highway Patrol.
Alcohol is not a factor in the fatal crash.
