Two semi's were involved in an accident on I-95 Southbound near World Golf Village.
The Florida Highway Patrol says the two semi's were both traveling Southbound, one was in the center lane and the other in the outside lane. A crash report reveals the driver of the semi in the center lane, 42-year-old John Carver, failed to stay in his lane and drifted into the outside lane, striking the other truck driver, 23-year-old David Styron.
Carver's semi overturned spilling 59,000 pounds of sand onto the outside lane and shoulder of I-95 South. Both semi's traveled off the roadway and ended up in the shoulder.
St. Johns County Fire & Rescue tells WOKV a 9-1-1 call came in around 3:40pm. Fire Rescue confirms two semi's were involved with at least one overturned. The accident also caused a diesel fuel leak.
At least eight units were on scene and involved in extricating, John Carver. Carver is listed in serious condition at the hospital. The other driver was taken to Flagler hospital in non-life threatening condition.
The crash report indicates Carver is charged with failing to maintain a single lane, driving on a suspended license, and other commerical motor vehicle violations.
The oustide lanes of 95S remain closed as cleanup of the sand and vehicles are underway.
