Jacksonville, FL - We're activating the WOKV Severe Weather Center because of heavy rain headed our way.
NE Florida is under a Flood Watch through Saturday, with the potential for 2-3 inches, and possibly more in isolated areas.
Action News Meteorologist Arielle Nixon said the rain will arrive from the west in a couple of waves, with the first by early Friday afternoon. The second wave will come by the evening.
Ben Nelson with the National Weather Service in Jacksonville said thunderstorms will bring gusty winds. Homeowners should ensure dead limbs are removed from trees.
“We certainly had a wet start to the year,” said Nelson.
The Jacksonville area has seen 3 to 6 inches more rain than usual, Nelson said.
All that extra rain makes flooding more prone in high tide areas like Downtown and near Black Creek in Clay County.
Areas north of I-10 and Southeast Georgia are expected to see the most rainfall.
