Jacksonville, FL - A law that impacts your daily commute is changing today.
Florida’s Move Over law has been expanded. Until now, you were required to either leave a buffer lane or drop your speed to 20 mph below the posted limit when driving past an emergency vehicle or tow truck pulled over on the side of the highway. The law now covers utility and sanitation vehicles as well.
“Increase the safety of our motoring public- not only for their safety, but also for the emergency operators on the highways,” says Florida Highway Patrol Sergeant Dylan Bryan.
Bryan says since the law was first implemented more than a decade ago, it has led to safer roads.
“We have seen a reduction in these types of traffic crashes, but they’re still occurring,” Bryan says.
If you do not comply with the law, Bryan says you face a citation and points on your license.
