Governor Scott announces $30 million for workforce training

Doing a better job of getting jobs.

That was the focus of Governor Rick Scott’s announcement Thursday in Jacksonville of $30 million dollars in his “It’s Your Money” tax cut budget that will go toward workforce training.

"We want to make sure that this is the opportune economy, that whatever you want to do, you can do it here," said Scott.

Governor Scott says the money will fund workforce training programs for employees and employers high-skill/high-wage occupations as well as scholarships for people who want to attend Florida state college or post-secondary vocational career

"It will also be made available to Floridians who are unemployed, underemployed, or who just want to change to a good career."

Governor Scott also announced an increase in Florida trade and exports by $1.5 million.

The governor made his announcement at Greencore, an Ireland-based company near the airport that produces fresh salads, sandwiches, and sushi that you can buy in major retailers like Publix.

This is a line item in the budget so the money will still have to be approved by the Florida legislature.
