Grandmother of 7-year-old shot inside Northwest Jacksonville home tested positive for cocaine, marijuana

Jacksonville, Fl. — The grandmother of a 7-year-old boy, who was shot inside his Northwest Jacksonville home, tested positive for cocaine and marijuana, according to Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office report.

Police responded to the home on 5111 Doncaster Ave. just before midnight Sunday night. A woman claiming to be the aunt of the child stated she heard a “pop” sound come from the back of the home where two other children were moving furniture. She found the boy standing and holding his arm.

According to the report, DCF responded and spot tested the victim’s grandmother, Brenda Gibson, who tested positive for cocaine and marijuana.

Police have not announced any charges related to this shooting, and it is still unclear who fired the gun. There is no mention within the police report of any recovery of a weapon inside the home.
