Grant helps Jacksonville Police solve cold cases

A grant pays off for investigators with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Director Mike Williams says they were able to solve two cold cases, one of them dating back almost 15 years ago.

"Michael Bouey was a homicide victim who was shot and killed during a home invasion robbery back in May of 1998," said Williams. "This case involved several other victims. It was a very complicated case. One of the female victims was sexually assaulted by the suspects."

Money for new technology to analyze DNA helped officers arrest Michael Franklyn for 1st degree murder, kidnapping, sexual battery, armed robbery, and armed burglary.

Investigators used the same resources to arrest Michael Jerome Williams for the 1999 murder of 40-year-old Andrea Clemmins.

She was found strangled in a motel room on North Main Street.
