A new law mandates a harsher sentence for people convicted of a fatal hit-and-run.
The law now requires people convicted of leaving the scene of a deadly crash to spend a minimum of four years in jail.
It went into effect July 1, less than a week afterwards, Daniel Stein died after being hit by a black Mercedes, according to Jacksonville Beach Police.
Police said the driver fled the scene and still has not been caught.
The crash happened early Saturday morning on Third Street and 13th Avenue North, according to police.
WOKV spoke with police Tuesday morning around 4 a.m. Police said they still have not made any arrests nor have they announced that they have located the car.
A service for the 24-year-old will be held Tuesday at Hardage-Giddens Hendricks Chapel. The service is set to start at 11 a.m.
