Human skull found behind shopping center in St. Augustine, investigation underway

Jacksonville, FL — It's a disturbing discovery.

The St. Augustine Police Department is investigating, after they say a human skull was found behind "The Shoppes of Northtowne" on North Ponce de Leon Boulevard, which contains a Winn Dixie, among other stores.

According to police, a surveyor crew working in the area made the discovery on December 6th.

Since then, police say they've called in the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office and a cadaver dog to search for any additional remains. None were found.

Police say they've sent the skull to a forensic anthropologist, but, at this time, there's no other information.
