Jacksonville man charged with child neglect, after young kid found alone in unlocked vehicle

Jacksonville, FL — A 27-year-old man is charged with child neglect, after the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says he left a young child alone in the Walmart parking lot off Philips Highway.

According to the arrest report for Jacob Erlewine, the child was found in an unlocked, running vehicle with the radio playing loudly and no adult supervision.

A witness called police after spotting the child in the backseat, while other adults stood by the car to make sure nothing happened to the child.

According to JSO, surveillance video revealed Erlewine's girlfriend left him and the child in the car, while she walked to the nail salon. About 10 minutes later, Erlewine left the car, leaving the child unattended.

Police say the child was alone for about 22 minutes.

The Florida Department of Children and Families was notified about the incident.
