Jags hoping a new look will bring new energy to next season

Innovative, modern, sleek- just some of the words Jags players and fans alike are using to describe the team’s new look.

“Everything’s kind of moving forward, has a really aggressive look to it,” says Jaguars Guard Uche Nwaneri.

And it’s an aggressive feeling the team hopes to bring to the gridiron.

In addition to new fabric and typeface- following in line with the logo unveiled just a few weeks ago, there are a lot of “firsts” on the new uniform.  The uniform not just features the team nickname “Jags”, but it does so on a military-style patch that is near the heart on the jersey.

“The team has to represent the community, and the military is a big part of the community, and this is a way of us recognizing and honoring that,” says Jaguars owner Shad Khan.

Khan says it’s something the team “insisted” on.

“All the emotional support that we can give is embodied in that,” says Linebacker Paul Posluszny.

The rest of the attention seems to be focused on the helmet, which is two-toned.  The front is black and it fades in to gold, a look that’s designed to mimic a Jaguar coming out of the shadow on a hunt.

“The helmets are gunna look great with mud and some grass on them too,” says Khan.

And that reinforces the final theme the Jags are trying to hammer home with the chang- “look good, feel good, play good”.

“The uniforms take care of part of that, obviously the most important thing is still we have to go out and perform,” Posluszny says.

That’s welcome news to many Jags fans.

“Enforces the idea that we’re moving forward and it’s a whole new team and it’s all about the future now and we’re very excited,” says Brett Barley, a member of the “Teal Street Hooligans”.

Barley has been to every home game since 2007, and a handful of road games as well.  He says the city at-large always responds really positively to a change in the look, like the shift to black recently.  He plans on taking part in this new uniform fever as well.

“I’ll be stocking up on paychecks first, give that a shot, and then yeah, maybe grab a couple of jerseys. That will be awesome,” he says.

For Alex Varian, another “Hooligan”, the new uniform just adds to the excitement of the other changes we’ve seen in the team, like the new logo.

“Just excited, just ready to see everything out together on the field and just ready to get out there.  Can’t wait,” he says.

With all these changes, Khan says the only thing left to do is win.
