Jax truck driver dies in firey semi crash

A fiery crash leaves one person dead and traffic tied up all day.

We first told you about this accident during Jacksonville’s Morning News and since that time, I95 Northbound around Palm Coast Parkway has remained closed.  The Florida Highway Patrol says 33-year-old St. Claire Agenord, of Winter Haven, was driving a tractor-trailer when he hit a tanker from behind.

That caused the tanker to flip and the fuel it was transporting caught fire. The driver, 41-year-old Christopher James Mceuen, was trapped inside and died on the scene.

FHP says the road was “severely damaged” because of the extreme heat from the fire. As soon as debris was cleared, emergency repairs began. Repairs were completed just before 5:30 PM, meaning the highway was closed nearly 14 hours.

The investigation in to the exact cause of the crash is still ongoing and charges are pending at this time. FHP confirms Agenord, who was not injured in the crash, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for an unrelated charge but remains cooperative with their investigation.
