Jacksonville, FL - WOKV is on the scene of a deadly shooting involving deputies in St. Johns County. It happened around 10:30 last night in a home on Colee Cove Road.
According to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, four deputies responded to the area and met with a woman who claimed being a victim of domestic violence, saying she was pushed to the floor and her life was threatened during an altercation.
We're told three of the deputies responded to the home and made contact with the man who was inside.
At some point we're told a confrontation occurred between the suspect and deputies. The suspect reached under a bed where weapons were believed to be stored and two deputies opened fire, killing the man.
The victim has been identified as 66 year old Abbott Scott Bennett of St. Augustine. St. John's County Officials say one Deputy, Casey Romein tried to use his taser on the suspect, but it didn't work. That's when the other 2 opened fire killing Bennet.
The lawmen involved in the shooting have been identified as Corporal Kevin M. Kier who's been on the force for 13 years, and Deputy Charles K. Simpkess, a seven year veteran of the force. Both have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation into their use of deadly force. The female victim was not severely injured and should recover.
