Jacksonville, FL - Three double shootings in just two days- two within blocks of each other and none seeing a suspect in custody.
That’s just part of what’s facing Jacksonville Police following a busy few days focused in Northwest and North Jacksonville.
“We’ve had a lot of shootings,” says JSO Sergeant Michael Paul.
In the map inset to the left you can see three of those crimes dating back to late Saturday clustered in just a few blocks. On Saturday, JSO responded to one person shot during an armed robbery on Windle and Tyler. Early Monday then two people were shot off Grunthal and West 26th. Tuesday afternoon another double shooting- this one killing one man- off Grothe and Barnett. While giving a briefing on this most recent shooting, Paul was asked about any connection to the other crimes.
“We’ll see if we can find a connection, but at this time we don’t even have a motive,” he says.
Another double shooting which killed one person happened a few miles away on Beam Street Tuesday morning on the Northside. None of those crimes have led to an arrest, but JSO is stepping up efforts.
“The [number of] patrol officers in those areas has increased, which it always does when we have these shootings,” Paul says.
Still another shooting this weekend involved a Jacksonville Sheriff’s officer on Frazier- which is near the cluster mapped to the left. The suspect in that shooting is in custody.
Paul says it can be difficult to get ahead of these crimes because there are so many unanswered questions with each- like motive.
“It’s hard to stop these random acts that go block to block, it’s hard to predict where they’re going to happen,” he says.
He’s asking the community to step up their efforts and be aware of their surroundings. If you have any information on any of these crimes, you’re asked to call Crime Stoppers or JSO.
