JSO makes arrest in Southside shooting, outside hotel

Jacksonville, FL — It was apparently over a girl.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has arrested David McPheeters, 33, for a disturbing shooting on the Southside.

According to the arrest report, McPheeters was seen arguing with another man outside the Hawthorn Suites on Baymeadows Road on July 1st, when that argument turned physical.

McPheeters is accused of pulling out a handgun, which caused the other man to take off running.

He allegedly fired several shots at the man, hitting him several times and then shooting several bullets at the victim's car as well.

McPheeters tried to leave the area, but a witness wrote down his license plate number, which is how police eventually tracked him down.

According to the victim's girlfriend, who also witnessed the shooting, says the two were fighting because her boyfriend refused to tell McPheeters where his girlfriend was at.

McPheeters is charged with attempted murder and discharging a firearm in public.
