JSO makes second arrest in Westside murder

Jacksonville police make a second arrest in a murder on the Westside in early August.

Reginald Smith, Jr. is charged with murder and aggravated assault after police say he held others at gunpoint while fistfights went on throughout the day on Nolan St. just north of I-10. Chief Chris Butler says Ronnie Washington was shot and killed after a dispute over drugs led to disrespect which resulted in those fist fights.

"THe victim actually had apologized and acutally was running away at the time he was gunned down," says Chief Chris Butler with JSO.

Artiez Ingram turned himself in to police three days after the murder and admitted to shooting Washington. Chief Butler says they felt that Smith’s involvement was serious enough to charge him with murder too even though he didn’t pull the trigger.

Chief Butler added a special thank you to the community, who he says was very forthcoming with information which ultimately led to police identifying and arresting the two suspects.
