JSO: Man found on the Westside was shot

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a bus driver found a man lying near the road Monday morning on the Westside.

Police said the man in his 50’s was found unresponsive before 6 a.m. near the corner of Lane and Hyde Grove Avenues.

“It was later determined that he had suffered from a gunshot wound,” Sgt. Steve Zona said.

The man was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries, but JSO would not say where he was shot.

“Homicide detectives are out here on the scene interviewing potential witnesses, conducting a canvass and trying to determine if we have any video of this intersection,” Zona said.

Detectives planned to interview the bus driver who called for help, according to Zona.

“Nothing indicates he was robbed at this point,” Zona said.

A small bag was lying near the bus stop where the incident happened. Police say the bag belonged to the victim.

Police do not have a suspect.  They do not think this incident was related to the other violence crimes that happened in the same area.
