Large debris from Irma beginning to be picked up in Jacksonville

Jacksonville — Today contractors began picking up the large debris from Hurricane Irma. The crews will be working from sunrise to sunset, Seven days a week. There is no scheduled location for which neighborhoods the crews will begin to pick up debris. Mayor Lenny Curry says the city is aggressively trying to pick up the debris, and the 1st pass will take about 45 days, and the 2nd pass should take 15 days. The city says once the debris is picked up it will hauled off to 12 temporary sites across the city.

Here is a list of the temporary debris sites.

  • Victory Park (near Ft. Caroline & University)
  • Girvin Road Landfill
  • Brackridge Park (near Hogan & Southside Blvd.)
  • Palmetto Leaves Park (Greenland Rd.)
  • JTA Site (Marbon & San Jose)
  • Liverman Park (Normandy)
  • Pickett Drive & Soutel
  • Northside Landfill (New Berlin Road)
  • Otis Road Landfill
  • Jesse Street
  • Ovella Rd. (Morse Ave. & Seaboard Ave.)
  • River Oaks Road (Old Jackson Square Development on Philips Hwy)

The city says residents are restricted from going to these sites because thay are consisdered active contruction zones.
