Man accused of rape, kidnapping, fleeing Putnam Deputies

Two women are victimized by a man who led police on a wild crime spree in Putnam County.

51-year-old Darrell Bailey was arrested Wednesday following a police chase with speeds up to 100 miles per hour that ended on State Road 20.

Putnam Deputies say the crime spree started around 6:45am Wednesday at the home of a female acquaintance.  Deputies say Bailey asked to use the telephone, then pulled a knife and held it to the woman's throat.

Bailey held the victim against her will and raped her, according to deputies.

Bailey then demanded the victim drive him to an area store and, while he was inside, the victim fled the scene and called 911.

Hours later in Interlachen, an 18-year-old woman told deputies that she was approached by a man who pulled into her driveway.  The man grabbed her and put a knife to her neck.

Deputies say the suspect then forced the victim to drive away with him.  After a period of time she became increasingly afraid for her own safety so she jumped from the moving vehicle and ran into the woods.
The suspect kept driving, until he was spotted by a deputy on State Road 20.

Bailey was arrested and charged with kidnapping, sexual battery, false imprisonment, robbery, battery and fleeing a law enforcement officer.

Bailey is a registered sex offender resulting from a 1988 kidnapping and sexual battery in Taylor County, Florida.
