Maryland man pleads guilty to Facebook threats to Jacksonville woman

Jacksonville, FL — Authorities say a Maryland man, 38-year-old Seyed Ali Soroushjou, faces up to five years in federal prison after pleading guilty to sending threatening messages to a local woman via Facebook.

According to court documents, the victim contacted law enforcement to report she had received two threats after she posted a picture on Facebook, posing with three New York City policemen.

The first message contained threats to assault the three officers in the picture. The second one, sent three days later, threatened her with sexual assault.

Agents obtained a search warrant, then raided a Maryland home, confiscating three computer devices that the suspect had used to access the victim’s Facebook account.

A sentencing date has not yet been set.

Security experts say regularly check and update your security and privacy settings and if you are getting threatened on social media, call police immediately.
