Mathews bridge closure affects police

The Mathews Bridge closure having some effect on area police.

Sheriff John Rutherford says the closure has not affected police response time, as no patrol zones cross bridges.

However he says extra officers are working to help drivers maneuver through the detours and get where they are going. But these extra officers being moved has hampered JSO's Traffic and DUI units.

The extra salaries are mainly being paid for by the Florida State Department of Transportation.
